Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul has defined the first weekend of Daniel Ricciardo in the team as “mainly of lows”.
The Australian couldn’t get out of Q2 in Qualifying, being outqualified by his teammate Hulkenberg who had problems in his car, and was involved in an accident at the start of the race that destroyed his front wing and a few laps later caused him to retire due to overheating engine components.
Abiteboul refused to evaluate the impact Ricciardo had on the team after only one troubled weekend with Renault.
“Let’s be honest, I can’t say that after the weekend we had together. It’s a collective performance.”said the Frenchman. “It’s a weekend mainly of lows, apart from glimpses of a very good and strong performance from him and the car.”
“We need collectively to do better. It’s a learning exercise” completed Cyril.
