Lewis Hamilton made good use of pole position to get off the line well and take control of the race, to lead all the laps and to win easily.
The five-time champion did not take notice of his teammate, controlling the pace throughout the race and ending 18s ahead of Valtteri Bottas. With the result, and especially the way it was built, Hamilton’s advantage in the championship becomes comfortable and virtually unreachable. Bottas will have to pull rabbits out of his top hat to challenge the Englishman again.
The podium was completed with Charles Leclerc in a discreet but efficient race. The Monegasque even attacked Bottas on the last lap of the race but had to settle for 3rd place. Verstappen and Vettel completed the top 5 without major emotions.
As on Saturday, Mclaren was the highlight of the middle pack, finishing the race with Carlos Sainz in 6th. Rookie Norris suffered from hydraulic problems in his car when 7th place seemed guaranteed, losing positions in the last laps for Ricciardo, Raikkonen and Hulkenberg, closing the race in 10th.
In a race without great emotions and highlights, the biggest disappointment was Pierre Gasly. Racing at home the Frenchman could not even score with Red Bull, without major apparent problems. His position on the team seems increasingly in danger.
